Synopsis:
Sir Oliver B. Bumble, inhabits the Bumble Castle near the romantic, little city of Rommeldam. One day, a giant sized, green colored egg appears out of nowhere, containing.... a little dragon. Sir Bumble having no children of his own adopts the little fellow, immediately picturing himself as father and educator. The warnings of his friend, Tom Puss, remain unheard.
However, Sir Bumble does not know that little "Dexter" as he calls him, belongs to the rare species of "Swell-dragons", who can grow to gigantic size, if aroused.
Meanwhile, Bumble is giving a dinner party in his castle. Just before the start of the celebration, he and his neighbor, Miss Doodle, put little Dexter to bed. But children rarely do what they are told and so, as the party is in full swing, little Dexter climbs out of his bed. Sir Bumble is just about to open the buffet, when the Swell dragon makes his entrance as a frightening monster. The notables of Rommeldam leave the party in a rage and Bumble is instructed to take little Dexter, who has shrunken back to baby size again, to Dr. Soulsqueezer's Clinic, so that he might cure the little chap's growing pains forever. However, nobody has thought of Bull Super and Hype Hyper, two villains, who have watched Dexter's abilities with great interest. Their plan is to use the Dragon for their robberies and so they kidnap the little one from Dr. Soulsqueezer's Clinic. Next, they hold up the Rommeldam Bank. The Police arrives just as Bumble tries to call his foster child to order. For Chief Commissioner Browbeater, Bumble who is up to his knees in the gold that Dexter has stolen is the the one who planned the holdup. But this time Dexter saves his "Father" and they spend an adventurous day in the Dark Forest near the Black Mountains. Sir Bumble even fancies himself to be a free fought vagabond, who has severed his ties with bourgeois society.
Alas. The law runs its course and the police track Bumble down. Dexter is locked up as a curiosity in the circus. This would be a very sad ending if it wasn't for Sir Oliver B. Bumble.........
DEXTER THE DRAGON & BUMBLE THE BEAR is the first feature length cartoon ever produced in Holland. The quality of the animation as well as the amount of creativity which was put into the development of the characters can stand up to the highest international standards.
